Richard Peck, author of 30 novels for middle-graders and young adults, is one of America’s most highly respected writers for the young. He is the only children’s book author to receive a National Humanities Medal. In addition, he is recipient of the Margaret A. Edwards Award, the ALAN Award for outstanding contributions to young-adult literature and two Edgar Awards. His A Year Down Yonder (2001) won the 2001 Newbery Medal, and its prequel, A Long Way from Chicago, was a National Book Award finalist and a Newbery Honor Book. His latest books include The Teacher’s Funeral: A Comedy in Three Parts (2004) and Here Lies the Librarian (Penguin/Dial, 2006). He lives in New York City.
