Louis Sachar is an award-winning author of more than 20 fiction and educational books for children. His book Holes won the prestigious National Book Award and the Newbery Medal. It was also an American Library Association (ALA) Best Book for Young Adults and an ALA Notable Book, and it was made into a major motion picture. He is also the author of the Marvin Redpost series and the Wayside School series. His newest book, Small Steps (Delacorte, 2006), has some of the same characters who appeared in Holes. Mr. Sachar lives in Austin, Texas.
