Support the Library

|| Get Involved ||

Your support for Library of Congress will help bring the unparalleled resources of our nation’s library to the American public and the world. By doing so, together we can touch the imagination, inspire creativity, and cultivate and celebrate achievement. When Thomas Jefferson helped restore the Library of Congress in 1814, he expressed “an ardent desire to see knowledge so disseminated through the mass of mankind that it may at length reach the extremes of society: beggars and kings.” You can help bring Jefferson’s vision to life by ensuring the world’s largest and most inclusive collection of human creativity is accessible to all. Make a meaningful contribution to our nation’s cultural legacy—support the Library in preserving the insights of the past, gathering the knowledge of the present, and developing wisdom for the future.

National Book Festival

The National Book Festival celebrates the joy of reading and the creativity of America's authors, illustrators, and poets. Since 2001, this popular annual event has brought hundreds of thousands of book lovers to the National Mall to see and hear their favorite writers and to get their books signed. Over the years such luminaries as David McCullough, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Khaled Hosseini, Sue Grafton, Terry Pratchett, Geraldine Brooks, Julie Andrews, Michael Connelly, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Mary Pope Osborne, and Marc Brown have been featured at the festival. The 2008 National Book Festival will be held on September 27.

The James Madison Council is a festival patron.  For more information on the festival, visit the web site at www.loc.gov/bookfest.
